Default Take your own desk to work

Whilst watching the permies haul some desks around the office for some reason or another, I thought of an excellent weapon in an IR35 defence.

Why not take your own desk in on the first day?

Imagine it, you rock up with some a big piece of wood and a screwdriver.

What am I doing? Building my desk. For my temporary office away from my main office.

Sorry? Can you put something on my desk? No, it's my desk. It's like an embassy is technically foreign land, this here is my company's area, and I've been temporarily granted some of it.

You what? Borrow my stapler? Company property.. could you just fill out this form here please.

And on the last of the contract, take the screwdriver back in and dismantle it all again.

Job done.

Nothing says you're in business of your own accord like taking in your own desk. Take that HMRC.

Then I realised the whole idea fell down when I realised that I wouldn't fit a desk in my car.....

Oh well, it's the thought that counts.

Most amusing

Maybe somebody should invent a mobile desk. Perhaps they could pitch it to the BBC Dragons and then sale the thing via the PCG website?!!!

I do know of one guy who takes his own office chair on contracts. Mainly because he is a 26 stone powerlifter and tends to break standard office chairs...

Oh dear, another utterly pointless discussion about IR35

Not only has it collected a poultry amount of tax over the last ten years, it's also contributed to what is probably hundreds of thousands of wasted man-hours.

What did they say about unintended consequences?
