Thumbs up HMRC Online - you've got to love it...

Credit where credits due Hector, I have to say that the HMRC online system is a first class service. I remember back in the day filling pretty much everything using Royal Mail - that was painful.

Nowadays, i'm all setup for SA, PAYE, VAT and Corporation Tax. It's user friendly and quick to process. The only downside is that the server sometimes falls down at peak periods, but I guess a little bottleneck is to be expected when you have over 6m people accessing the site at the same time (i.e 31st January).

I'll say it again, well done Hector. There, that's off my chest...

Are you gunning for the "forum comedian" title SMG? I remember when they did a service upgrade last year. It was temperamental (read: unusable) for over a month. If it affected the public it would have been all over the news, but because this affected businesses none of us moaned loudly enough.

You're a miserable g1t Jeffrey, remember you're not paying for this service it's FREE. It's like walking into a restaurant, ordering a FREE plate of food and complaining that the meat is over cooked. Yes they did an upgrade and yes it was slow for a while. It's technonolgy, these things happen...

Free? I pay taxes and my employer pays taxes. Free my ****.

Before doing an upgrade they should have checked it WORKED. And the second they realised it didn't rolled it back to an earlier version

Does being an Umbrella Company employee make you so aggressive or are you just naturally this way?

I like to think that contractors have done this to me.

JeffreyC has a point. Any decent IT roll-out would have made allowances for things like this happening and been ready to return the previous service whilst bugs were being ironed out.

The idea that people having issues submitting stuff to the HMRC is OK is amazingly flawed.

The sole problem I have with the HMRC site has nothing to do with the online submission stuff it's actually finding information, it can be incomprehensible. Someone needs to write a wiki.

Online submissions have made the umbrella companies lives easier without doubt, paper filing for so many companies would have been hell.

If they could just learn to send us information by email rather than post that would be a huge improvement.

We get tens of thousands of statements and notices through that we essentially just have to bin on the spot, in many cases there is no need to look at them, it must cost thousands.
