Default Footballers tax Hike

Doesn't it make you cry!

BBC Article

Won't make too much difference to the top earners, just means more clever contract negotiations, reductions in salary and increases in offshore held image rights!

It's the mid table earners that feel sorry for, the £500k-£1m a season that will be hit....well maybe not!!

I was listening to the story on Sky Sports News this morning (don't get me started on Natalie Sawyer ). Apparently we're set to see a mass exodus of top English players to Spain where they charge a flat income tax rate of just 24%. It was also quite interesting to hear that most players / agents now negotiate their contracts based on a net salary basis which means its the club that suffers when income tax rates go up, not the player.

I would feel sorry for them, as no-one likes to be taxed.

But then I'll see one of them fall to the floor when another guy comes within two foot of him and I'll lose all my sympathy again.
