I'd probably go along with this although there are some high street accountants out there that know what they're talking about. The problem is the most are a 'jack of all trades' and tend to know a little bit about a lot.

I must say that agree with the comments.......very interview for staff I squeeze in an IR35 or S660a question and the vast majority had either not heard of it or no in depth knowledge!

Needless to say, the ones that hadn't heard of it were turned away!

It's difficult for the average high-street agency to compete with the mass 'wholesale' providers of limited company services and I'm certainly not surprised by these findings. IR35 advice needs to be given by specialist tax & legal experts on a case by case basis.

If anyone ever asks me which accountant to go with I always say "if you go with your high street one check he really knows the deal with contractors".

And that means more than just ASKING him whether s/he does, it means actively testing their knowledge... because of course they will say "yes".

I've been working at a different site so spent the week in a hotel.
