Swings and roundabouts that one, it could be good news for umbrellas, but it could be set up to make the AWD more palatable. On top of that we operate a growing self-employed payment option, so in that respect not necessarily the most wonderful news.

My personal take on it is that it's unlikely to be next year, and it's unlikely to make it through unchanged. Hold off on worrying about it until the results come out.

Like most of the usual consultation documents then! Come to think of it, you guys over at Gabem must spend all year worrying about ifs and buts what with the CIS scheme, Umbrella Companies, MSCs and so on. What happens if the Conservatives get in and abolish IR35?!

There is a lot of looking ahead and keeping track of things, but you learn fast that you need to spend a lot of money on people to do some of the worrying for you. Without the back up of people like that all the companies like ourselves would have gone the way of the dodo years ago.

Abolishing IR35 would open doors for everyone, I'm sure there is something useful we could bring to the market. Besides that's a long way off, there is always another consultation or report just around the corner.

Out of interest, did anyone see any subbies marching on Parliament in support of freelancers being hit by the IR35 legislation?

Thought not.

I doubt they had any knowledge of it, it wouldn't have been anything to do with them thinking "well, it doesn't apply to me so sod them."

With those affected by IR35 having direct knowledge of what it can do and how it can complicate matters, it's up to us to educate them.

I don't think they're seeing it coming. Like many freelancers didn't think that IR35 would really affect them, then you see the huge "catch-all" legislation they have devised and it hits home... too late.

I agree. The sh1t will royally hit the CIS fan should the new legislation get the go ahead come next April. I only hope the industry has recovered sufficiently from the recession otherwise they'll be either a huge shortage in labour-only sub contractors or a resurgence in the black market.

Come to think of it, what's Terry Venables up to these days?
