There may still be a problem. They're using the "deemed" word again, so we're in for another IR35 "am-I-or-aren't-I" fiasco. Only certainty is that an awful lot or people are going to be paying more tax or more service fees, and an awful lot are going to end up in court for not following the rules.

Read into that what you will but from what I've heard it WILL happen so you need to get your sh1t together pretty soon.

Does anyone know what the latest situation is regarding the false self employment proposals? Sure with the recession hitting construction hard and the Olympics just round the corner, the government aren't going to be implmenting this next April?

The consultation is still ongoing, everyone has until the end of October to voice their opinion, we'll get more news once that's finished.

As a company we've made our views known, and I know other companies and bodies have as well, but I'm surprised that nobody has started a petition on the Introduction to e-petitions | Number10.gov.uk site about it. That seems the perfect place to make your opinion known.

what do you reckon Hugo, 2012 for full implementation? It just goes to show that the 'new' CIS scheme (what with the employer's fine and all that) was a total failure if they're planning another shake up so soon

I'm inclined to say 2012 due to the fact that the Olympic work will be finished, and the economy is likely to be in much better shape.

The most important factor affecting all this I feel may be the general election.

Hugo,

I'd be keen to hear if you have any inside knowledge of what's going on? The effect of this could have a disastrous affect on my business.

2012 would give me some breathing space but you never know what stupid actiosn this government is liable to take!

Thank you

Gary

Sorry I've been away from here, but back now I have a reason to post

I know my friend Darling delayed this, but does anyone know if it will be back with the new government? Can't find any mention of it in the media so guessing good news?

I suspect that they won't even consider revisiting this until the whole IR35 thing has been well and truly sorted. I wouldn't expect to see any new announcements for at least a couple of years, maybe longer.

But then again, I'm no expert.

Only stuff that seems to affect construction is this:

Queen’s Speech: Bills that affect construction Ι Construction Enquirer

Seems to be more about 'big stuff' than workers. Although, my gut feeling is that they realise that tax avoidance/evasion and/or false self-employment in the construction sector is too big a problem to tackly anyway....
