Default What are you Twittering About?

Can anybody help me understand the benefits of Twitter?

I've just looked at my Twitter account for the first time in about 3 months and discovered that I'm following 339 people most of whom I have no interest in whatsoever! I haven't chosen to follow these people so I'm assuming this is some automatic thing that I forgot I'd set up.

Then I look at the Tweets and again find nothing mind-blowingly interesting although there were a couple of freelance job opportunities paying ridiculously low salaries [like under $3 per hour]

So what's the point of it? Does anybody have time to actually read all of their tweets, does anybody care?

I'd love to know if anybody actually sees a benefit to Twitter!

I get the feeling that the whole twitter fad thing has had it's day (even Jonathan Ross has stopped talking about it).

Don't get me wrong, i'm sure 100 million people (or whatever the actual number of users is) can't all be sucked in by the hype. For me, it's just another 2.0 site that I once subscribed to and every now and then get contacted by some random I used to go to school with.

On a another note, did anyone else get a spammy PM this morning?

Well, Twitter does have it's benefits. It depends on what you use it for really.

Micro-blogging is beneficial in the sense that it is a quick, easy and convenient way of disseminating information. We have really become a tad lazy and impatient and long prose isn't that enticing to read for many.

A friend of mine uses it for business and to blast news to her followers whenever she has a new product out. It helps to spread the news quickly and does help her gain and retain customers.

For regular folks though, I find it a little bit unnecessary. I mean, people could care less about what someone had for lunch that day right?
