Default Weekly poll (07/05/09)

I'm afraid that the poll this week mentions the recession once again.

One of your roles as a freelancer is to take the initiative in your own career development. Whilst contractors and freelancers have perks such as greater flexibility, greater variety and potentially higher pay, they don't get ongoing training like many full-time employees.

In light of the current situation, have you taken stock of your own skills and decided that it's time to add something to your CV? For example, are you an IT contractor that has decided to get a PRINCE2 qualification so that you can apply for project management roles? Are you a HR professional that has decided to take on extra training to make your skills more up to date?

Or do you believe that extra training/qualifications will not yield rewards at the current time? Let us know above.

I don't think anyone can really afford to stand still in the current climate, particularly freelancers on short term assignment. I personally try and commit to at least 3 training courses per year. Some are relevant from a CPD perspective; some are just relevant for future jobs. Either way, you need to stay ahead of the game.

I'm alright for the minute, I haven't got time for additional training.

But if I was benched.....
