Lightbulb Why the World Cup was rubbish

I've already mentioned (once or twice) how cr@p I think this World Cup has been. I'll start off my list of the reasons why, feel free to chip in:

1. Vuvuzelas
2. The way England played
3. The ball
4. Sepp Blatter (cretin)
5. Goal line technology
6. Lack of good goals
7. The fact that Holland got to the final
8. The fact that the cheating b@stard French team got there at all
9. The form of Torres and Rooney
10. Howard Webb taking charge of the final

At the risk of getting emotional, i've been watching World Cups since 1982 and that, hands down, was the worse pile of horsesh1t since the second Stone Roses album. And that really was horsesh1t.

Roll on the Open...

Everybody played not to lose. England simply aren't very good

3. The ball
Balls. These people are paid thousands to play football. They all had the same ball.

4. Sepp Blatter (cretin)
12 years and you only just noticed?

And nothing to do with dishonest cheating goalies not telling the truth? (see 2.)

Wrong. It was the way they played the final

Only the French cheated? Shorely shume mishtake

9. The form of Torres and Rooney
Torres had been injured. Rooney is an over-hyped moron.

10. Howard Webb taking charge of the final
He did the best job possible in an incredibly difficult game. At least he tried to keep it alive

No, that's modern football. It's why I don't watch it.

These are kind've indirect but my two low-lights of the World Cup were

11. ITV cutting to a Hyundai advert just as Steven Gerrard was scoring for England. Topped off by a management-speak style of apology from Adrian Chiles at HT.

12. James Corden's World Cup Live.

There is a pattern emerging already I think.

Apparently the WC was a success for South Africa. Whopee for them! When will we get something as a success for the UK?

The World Cup was rubbish because the sport is rubbish.

Before I debate this with you any more, I want to know exactly what you thought he did wrong.

Number 11 was also a low point for me (the guys at Sky must have been laughing their pants off). It's not the first time that has happened on ITV though. I remember watching an FA Cup tie last season (or was it the season before?) between Liverpool and Everton. The game was 0-0 and went into extra time. In the 27th minute of ET, ITV cut to an advert about cars. When the muppets eventually sorted it out and switched back to the game, Everton had scored and the game was effectively over.

By the way, I also agree that James Corden's World Cup Live was terrible...

13. Apparently the travel arrangements laid on by Fifa and the South African authorities were nothing short of comical. One of my good friends flew out to see the USA game with his son. After the match, it took no less than 4 hours for the coaches to turn up and take them down the single "dirt track" back to his hotel. Like Malvolio said, Mr. Blatter has been in charge for many years so either he's secretly brilliant at his job or he's got something on the powers that be at Fifa. I expect its the latter.
