What a waste of time.

That is all.

Come on, you need to give us more than that. What don't you like about it?

Car dealerships need to stump up some of the cost, which makes it less attractive for an already struggling car industry.

The people that drive "old bangers" can't afford new cars, even with a discount, as a matter of course.

This reduces your bargaining power at the dealership, as they will say "it's already been discounted by two grand"

There's only a limited pot, which means only a choice few will benefit.

And finally, only mostly old people will take advantage of it. Have you ever actually seen them drive?

Default Scrappage Bargain!

Cheer up you pessimists!

I bought a car for my wife yesterday - at the Citroen dealership I had a choice between the Xsara Picasso reduced from over £16.5k to just under £(YES that's less than half price), and opted in the end for What Car and others' MPV of 2009 - the C4 Grand Picasso reduced from over £16k to just under £10k!

So for once, I applaud the government!

Yes, but it's a Citroen.

Anyway, what is this scheme for? They're actually going to be scrapping decent cars a lot of the time.... hardly good for the environment when most of the environmental damage is caused in making the damn thing.

Thumbs up

I have to say that I was more concerned with the discount than the environmental benefits.

And whilst it is indeed a Citreon, my wife's delighted with it. And if she's happy, I'm happy.

Contrary to Azeey's concerns, the government are already declaring it a success....

Good point Chorltonwheeler, I mean the bit about your wife being happy. You can't put a price on it can you?, well i guess in your case you can actually....it's about 10 grand.
