Default Industrial action

Anyone on here attempted to get across London this morning?

What's everyone's views on it all. Maybe not just this particular action, where there's the usual mud slinging between each side, but in general.

I can't help but think that striking is a major pain in the *** for those affected by it all, but at the same time we're not as bad as the French.

The perfect example of why employers should take a more flexible approach, I think!

Why have a load of frustrated employees turning up for work when a lot of them could work just as efficiently, if not more so, from home?

I had a meeting in south london yesterday. I was going to drive in, but checked the TFL web site, saw the northern line was sort of running, and risked it. Actually, the northern line tube was fine.

However, I disagree with what the unions are doing - actually, I disagree with Unions fall stop. I think unions are not there to promote employee rights or conditions, they are they to make money and get people like Bob Crow on the goggle-box. The Unite union forces eployees to pay between £19 and £29 a month into the union - with 2 million+ members, you do the maths.

So what happens if there was not a union? If employees are worried about their jobs, they talk to their boss who talks to their boss, and up it goes, and then it comes back down. If they dont get an answer or dont like the answer they leave - simple as. And if their safety fears are realised and a train crashes, the H&S executive bring the tube bosses in for corporate manslaughter.

The tube strike only worked to give the tube drivers a holiday, get the unions some press, and make a few million hard working people angry. Did it resolve the situation? No, it never does, and never will.

Sorry - rant over.

Agreed! I think some employers want to see their staff at the office no matter how difficult and unproductive that proves. Having said that, when I was an employee, I used to save up all the little DIY jobs especially for my 'working' from home days
