Default Weekly Poll - Has social media helped you secure a contract? (13/01/2011)

You can’t escape Social Media. Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter have a global reach and they’re free to use, so it’s hardly surprising that SMEs use them to promote their business. But are they useful for a freelancer looking for new contracts?

Is it really worth spending ages creating a professional profile on social media sites? Personally, I have been approached by potential clients via LinkedIn and I received a ‘let’s talk more’ request via Twitter. So, I believe it is worth it.

But what about other freelancers’ experiences? Has social media helped you secure a contract?

I was on linkedin. Got off it when I realised that it was just full of agents who wanted to increase their connection list and spam me.

Not really, no.

It's great for spying on that kid from school who used to beat the cr@p out of you behind the science labs though

I'm going to take a guess that there was no shortage of people willing to queue up and take their turn?
