Default BA ask staff to work for free (seriously)

BA asks staff to work for free

Silly permies. Do they not realise that the company will turn around and **** on them at the earliest opportunity? That's what they do, and it won't matter if they did some unpaid work. And:

BA's chief executive Willie Walsh has already agreed to work unpaid in July, forgoing his month's salary of £61,000.

Boo-****ing-hoo. When you're on three hundred times the annual salary of a lot of people I don't think not being paid for one month will affect him that much.

"****, no new Mercedes S Class for me this month then, I'll just have to leave it until July. Ho hum"

It is funny for a company to ask employees to forego payment during a recession.

Where I think this might work though is for those who have some money saved up and never quite got around to, say, a round the world trip. One month off work without having to book the time off (how many people, apart from freelancers, can have a random month off unless they hand in their notice?)

However, those who don't get paid but still turn up are insane, IMO. Loyalty to yourself and your family first, employer second.

There's no deal to be had here. Those that turn up and work for free should enjoy some form of profit share bonus in the future (or maybe share options).

What will actually happen here is that you work for free, and when the company becomes profitable again (which I'm sure BA will) you get..... well.... nothing. Where is the real incentive?

I just read that although they made a £401m loss last year, they had a £900m profit the year before. So where has all that money gone? Presumably, in the pockets of the shareholders and upper management. And now that times are tough they're straight back to asking the common worker for help, the ones of £16,000 to £30,000.

It's times like this that I'm glad I'm not a permie.

I wonder how many of the managers are turning up for free?

800 have decided to work for free

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8119388.stm

Absolutely madness. 4000 are taking unpaid leave... mildly sensible if you have plans. But wtf have 800 decided to just work for free?

At the very least they should tell a few people to '**** off' on those days
