Default New Speaker

"Order! Order!"

OK, now I've got that obvious quote out of the way, on to more important things. Who do you think will be the next speaker?

The list:
  • Margaret Beckett (Lab)
  • Sir Alan Beith (Lib Dem)
  • John Bercow (Con)
  • Sir Patrick Cormack (Con)
  • Parmjit Dhanda (Lab)
  • Sir Alan Haselhurst (Con)
  • Sir Michael Lord (Con)
  • Richard Shepherd (Con)
  • Ann Widdecombe (Con)
  • Sir George Young (Con)

How can Margaret Beckett, who stated on Question Time that she can understand why the public doesn't understand why MPs claim the expenses they do, get the speaker position? She clearly wouldn't be able to clean the cobwebs out.

It's all about Ann. Forget the argument that as an interim she won't have time to sort stuff out, I think she'll do just fine.

Look, I'm all for tradition and everything, but what's with this stupid "dragging the new speaker to the chair"?

It's *******s like that that puts people off this sort of thing.

Nice to see some MPs moaning about him already. You voted for him, didn't you??
