Question Derren Brown correctly predicts the lottery numbers

Alright then everyone, how did he do that?

There must be a simple explanation...

Not possible, the camera wasn't steadied so was all over the place. Doubt they could do a split screen with a camera which was that unsteady.

He didn't predict anything, he didn't show the "prediction" before they drew the numbers so the question is how they got the numbers onto the balls. I would have only been impressed if he had shown the numbers before the draw.

Don't forget, no matter what the man says, he's an illusionist.

It's a PR gaff - if he was that clever, why isn't he sat on some beach somewhere smoking a cuban having already won the lottery ten times over?

He isn't. But the genius of Derren Brown is that he makes you think he's not cheating.

He says that he doesn't believe in magic, psychics, mediums etc., but he does admit that he uses deception in his shows.

The audience trust him because he "tells" them how it works, but listen to what he's saying and he doesn't actually tell you anything. You're none the wiser about how it actually works, you couldn't go off and do it yourself.

That's the genius behind it.

A mate of mine suggested a projector last night. That wouldn't work, as he turned the balls around and also prodded them.

So that got me thinking... ever heard of e-ink? It's what they use for the new fangled book readers. Charge some thingy-ma-bobs the right way and they 'stick' to the surface and stay there until charged again.

E Ink - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm sure you could use that technology in a ping-pong ball - after all, the e-book readers you can buy are wafer thin.

Or, even easier, have you ever heard of Augmented Reality?

It can be pretty impressive:

YouTube - Augmented Reality for Non-Rigid Surfaces

And it would easily allow you to move the balls slightly but allow the image to still look real

I have a mate who knows someone who is related to someone who once shared a flat with someone in the effects industry (alright, it's my brother).

He has confirmed that it could technically be a split screen, even with the camera 'shaking' - that can be easily added. However, he is being coy on how they could do this. The scoundrel.
