Default Six-month teacher training plan

People could qualify as a teacher in England in six months rather than the usual year, under new government plans.

Anyone tempted?

Long holidays are the first thing that usually spring to mind first but, going back to school hum...Mind you some of the offices I worked in as a permie were like playgrounds.

My Daughter spent a total of five years at university training to be a teacher, and now they are saying she could have done all of that in just six months?

Crazy!!!

I suppose if you have some experience of teaching (or maybe even management/tutoring) fast tracking wouldn't be a bad thing. But the news story I heard made this sound like it would be talented graduate students.

So to me it just sounds like a typical Labour cost cutting and target-hitting exercise.

I don't think even a talented graduate could be fast tracked for this - they have no life experience most of the time. I know when I graduated I thought that I knew everything but as the years go by I know it's not so true!

I know this will only be a small number of candidates but still...

The part about fast-tracking headteachers makes sense though. In the private sector if you have exceptional talent you will rise quickly, it must be frustrating for public sector staff to move slowly through the bands at an imposed speed.
