Default Royal Mail swamped with job applications

More than 85,000 people applied positions with the Royal Mail yesterday after they announced they would hire 30,000 temps to help clear the backlog caused by the current disruption to postal services.

The Royal Mail plans to hire twice the normal number of staff in the run-up to Christmas.

The positions only pay £5.95-an-hour but with the festive season looming and so many people out of work the stampede is understandable.

The unions aren't happy about the decision accusing Royal Mail bosses of recruiting an army of strike-breakers.

Every cloud has a silver lining and I'm sure that's the way all of the successful job seekers will view the current dispute.
