Default Receipts for expenses

Good news. MPs have literally just voted to scrap the rule that allows them not to submit receipts for certain expenses (such as office costs, travel, and communications) if the value is, according to them, under £25.

Brings them a bit more into line with the strict rules on receipts that we already have as contractors.

Now we just need to get HMRC to change their rules... ironically enough the tax man doesn't always ask their staff for receipts....

Yeah and what an absolute disgrace that is. Talk about practice what you preach. I'm sick of hearing about the mighty HMRC and their underhand tactics. IR35, s660a, MSCs, Expenses and so on - when is the government gonna give us the credit and respect we deserve? Time wasters, the lot of them….

Bring on the blues!

Now all they need to do is ditch the second home allowance for those within a commuting distance of parliament....

I think that it is right that there is focus on our expense claims, so don't have a problem with providing receipts. We can't be seen to be dodgy with our tax claims, can we? You're not going to get much sympathy off the public if we do!

I'm not surprised at all. It looks like the new CIS scheme is still to have the desired effect. I think the majority of self employed 'subies' should really be employed on the books. Most employers in the construction industry are saving a packet on employer's NIC. Some will get away with it, some will have to cough up the difference sometime in the future (plus interest and penalties of course).
