We have different ways of defining the term 'contractor.' That's why we appear to disagree.

There are many reasons why jobs populate job boards, and genuine live requirements is only one of those reasons.

I've never been one to say freelancers don't need agencies. I will also freely admit that I am not cut out for cold-calling: I'll call people I know, but strangers? If I was allowed to hire an agent and have them sell me directly to potetnial clients rather than having to fight my way through 200 timewasters for every role, I'd do it tomorrow.

All I want is for all agents to recognise that there is a difference between freelancer and employee. The ones who have been around a while know that, but the bulk of the target-led ex-double-glazing salesmen that infest the major agencies haven't got a clue.
It's not just the recruiters that haven't got a clue. The hirers don't seem to have a clue either.

That I can agree with!

OK, agents, it's your market, what are you going to do to educate it??

It looks like I'll be writing a blog.....

Outside of my own company not much else I can do. Hopefully my writings will empower others to change.

*Play Rocky montage music, show images of recruiters making a positive difference and lots of smiling contractors*

You think that I'm some evil urchin taking some of your daily rate whilst I put my feet up on my desk and think "now that Porsche 911... should I get the Alcantara leather adaptive sport seats, or should I get the Alcantara leather lightweight bucket seats?"
That question is actually immaterial because I don't like the Porsche 911. It's what recruitment agents buy when they just want to look like their boss.

What's wrong with Porsche 911s??

Ugly, silly cars for ugly, silly people that feel the need to make a 'point'.
