Default Contractor's best friend

Had a very interesting chat with an Agent last night, apparently we really are starting to see the ‘green shoots’ of economic recovery in the UK Recruitment Market. I this guy completely insane or just trying to be my friend?

I suppose it depends on your sector. Some might be suffering whilst others are doing OK - there's some roles that even when times are tough are needed.

A few months ago contractors were the easy target for a manager needing to cut costs. But as permies are made redundant maybe some flexible 'hire them now and give them a couple of weeks notice whenever we need to with no worries on redundancy pay' may seem attractive....

Incidentally, I don't think it's in his interests to talk to market up. I would have expected most of them to remind you how shocking things are (loads of people going for each role, clients slashing budgets etc.) so that they can force you to take a lower rate!

I'm still ticking over, not as busy as I was but still doing OK. Without blowing my own trumpet too much, I think it's because I have built up a wealth of contacts over the years.

It's in our interests to be friends! It helps at times like this
