Many city bankers realise that people have still not fully forgiven them for their role in the economic downturn and that they need to be in tune with the public mood.
Most financial firms will not be having large corporate Christmas celebrations this year, and some are even banning their staff from organising small team parties.
If a Christmas gathering does take place, it will be funded by the employees who will be given strict instructions to keep things under control. The banking industry has had enough bad headlines this year, and no firm wants to be in the news this Christmas due to staff misconduct.
The Royal Bank of Scotland doesn't seem to share in the banker's humility according to the Daily Telegraph. Senior executives at the Bishopsgate offices have applied for a licence for alcohol to be served from 7am each day, and to hold Karaoke events, on all storeys of the firm's Bishopsgate offices over the Christmas period!
