Further calls for a change in the UK tax regime came from the Federation of Small Businesses last week.
Recent research by the organisation shows that although SMEs want to expand, the UK taxation system has prevented them from increasing their workforce. This could also harm the freelance community.
This feeling is particularly strong in the South East of England where almost 2/3 of respondents claimed that taxes are holding back their expansion plans.
In line with many other organisations, the FSB wants the government to freeze NICs. They are also calling on the government to give a NI rebate to any small business [with less than 50 employees] that hires additional staff in 2010-11.
The National Chairman of the FSB, John Wright, said that SMEs had an important role to play in the economic recovery and a cut in NICs would help them expand and hire more staff.
