Filing self-assessments is not as simple as HMRC likes to make out.

At least that's the view of more than two thirds of small business owners and entrepreneurs.

Accountz, a leading software company specialising in accountancy packages carried out research and discovered that nearly a quarter (22%) of their respondents missed the filing date deadline occasionally because the process is so complicated.

Over half (55%) of the respondents were calculating their tax liability on an ongoing basis and saving the money accordingly, whilst 5% said that they paid HMRC by credit card.

More than 80% of small business owners feel that late payment penalty charges are unfair and 84% complained about the surcharge of 1.25% that is levied if you settle your tax bill by credit card.
