The Prime Minister’s recent announcement about freezing the pay of top public sector employees could deter highly skilled workers from applying for contracts according to the REC.
The REC's chief executive, Kevin Green, believes that the public sector needs to undergo serious reform and whilst he understands that the pay freeze is understandable as a short-term cost saving measure, it is not going to solve the underlying problem.
He also said that to successfully transform the public sector, it needs to remain competitive in order to attract high calibre new talent.
The REC launched their Public Sector Resourcing campaign last month which not only emphasises the need to bring in top talent to reform the sector, but also stresses the value that comes with flexibility with regards to staffing arrangements.
They believe that interim change management experts could provide a possible solution as they have the necessary skills and by employing people on an interim basis, the government would cut down on full employment costs.
