According to data published last week, the Employment Agency Standards inspectorate (EAS) has collected almost £200,000 in unpaid wages for temporary workers.
Since April last year, the amount clawed back has more than trebled and the EAS has now been set even more aggressive targets for the coming 12 months.
This could be good news for limited company contractors and self employed individuals who use a recruitment agency to source the majority of their interim work. The new EAS targets aim to better regulate recruitment agencies and improve compliance within the market.
Employment relations minister Lord Young commented: "EAS has achieved some notable successes, recovering more money than ever for agency workers and increasing awareness of their work amongst employers as well as employees.
"The new targets demonstrate our commitment to more effective enforcement - protecting vulnerable agency workers and ensuring a level playing field for legitimate businesses."
