The REC believes that the government should use the expertise of the private sector recruitment industry to counter-balance its plans to axe some of the new projects that would have helped young people into work.
Amongst the initiatives that will be affected by spending cuts are the Future Jobs Fund and the subsidies to help people who have been claiming Jobseekers Allowance for more than six months get access to training and employment opportunities.
Tom Hadley from the REC pointed out that there are an increasing number of youngsters who are now without either a job or access to training. Jobseekers need to have access to guidance from experts and private sector recruitment professionals are in an ideal position to help.
If the government doesn't do something soon to get young people into work, we are in danger of having a "jobless generation", he added.
Recruiters in the private sector are already providing guidance to professionals who have recently lost their jobs under the Jobsearch initiative run by the Department for Pensions and Work. The REC's Taskforce is due to publish its final report within the next month detailing its recommendations on how to get young people into work.
