Over a half of those looking for work face at least six months of unemployment whilst 30% have spent more than a year without a job. The majority of the unemployed respondents are over the age of 45 and 47% either have a degree or a post graduate level qualification.
Monday was found to be the most popular day for job hunting, but a lot of jobseekers also favour the weekends with over 40% sending applications on Saturdays and more than a third continue searching on Sundays.
Although the majority of MyWorkSearch users come from the construction, manufacturing, IT, retail or banking and finance sectors many have considered changing the industry sector they work in to get a job.
And a whopping 84% of respondents said they would accept a more junior role.
Taking up a part-time or temporary role has been the only option for many jobseekers. A third of those offered a job have taken a part-time role whilst just less than 50% have worked in a temporary workplace.
Meanwhile people in work are still suffering from the recession with public sector employees most likely to feel a high level of job insecurity and job satisfaction. 25% think they are going to lose their job and only 1 in 6 trusts their management.
In times of crisis, communicating the true situation to employees is vital. But although we all know that major spending cuts are going to occur, senior managers don't have access to the details and therefore it is very difficult for them to keep staff up-to-date.
