JD Power and Associates conducted the retail banking satisfaction study and discovered that First Direct came top of the satisfaction poll. Santander and Clydesdale Bank were the worst performers.
Overall, we are slightly happier with our banks than we were this time last year. Branch facilities have improved but customers would still like to see more done in three key areas: product offerings, fees and problem resolution.
The satisfaction survey looks at six areas: account activities, account information, branch facilities, fees, problem resolution and product offerings. 25% of consumers who have had a problem with their bank in the last 12 months say they will more than likely change banks next year. 55% of those with a complaint said they were dissatisfied with the way their complaint was resolved.
Stuart Crawford-Browne, from JD Power, said banks do appear to have taken steps to improve but customers still express dissatisfaction, especially over the fees charged on overdrafts and monthly service charges.
First Direct scored 774 out of a possible 1,000 to top the satisfaction poll. Customers were particularly satisfied with the bank's account information, account activities, fees and product offerings.
The Co-operative Bank came in second spot with a score of 734, followed by Nationwide with 723. Lloyds ranked in 6th place with the Industry Average of 698, whilst Clydesdale and Santander propped up the bottom of the table with 659 and 666 respectively.
