The research, which was conducted by The Network international job board alliance, discovered that although more people would consider working abroad they would want to do so for shorter time periods.
Staff in 66 countries were surveyed and only about 14% said they were not interested in an overseas career move; in 2006 the percentage was 21%.
97% of Portuguese workers would consider an overseas posting, as would 94% of those working in Nigeria and Luxembourg. At the other end of the scale, only 30% of Latvians were interested in working abroad.
In the survey conducted in 2009, 46% of people considering working overseas said they would prefer to do so for longer than five years. This has now fallen to 37%.
Among the popular motivational factors for working overseas are benefits and terms of employment and good career progression opportunities. Location, salary, training and work-life balance appear to be less important considerations.
34% of workers worldwide believe China will lead the economic recovery. Taken on a country-by-country basis, China came out top or second top as the nation to lead the recovery in all but one major country - India.
Workers in India think their country is the one most likely to lead the recovery. They placed the US second and China third.
