Working From Home – Never Wear Pyjamas? WHAT!

As I settled into my desk at Freelance Supermarket HQ this morning I got a phone call. “You've got to see this,” said the person on the other end.

"See what?" I asked, intrigued.

"It's an article from some kind of guru. Just read it. Go to this website," and with that he hung up.

So I typed in the web address and landed on the page, only to be met with this headline..."The First Rule of Working From Home: Never Wear Pyjamas."

I almost dropped my morning cup of green tea. "WHAT!" was the only words I could find to match my shock at such words.

Regular readers of this blog will know that one of my main motto's is - "wear pyjamas when working from home." It is your right as a freelancer.

I was so flabbergasted by this article that was now in my face that I did something I've never done before in the morning...I turned off the Jeremy Kyle TV show.

"No time this morning Jeremy, sorry," I said, and with those words I started to type my response to the so called "guru" and their "never wear pyjamas" memo.

The article starts with the message: "If you're dressed for bed, your brain will think it's bedtime."

My response to this: Rubbish! Wearing pyjamas is all about comfort, and if you do feel tired during the day then maybe it is your brains way of telling you that you need more sleep. So get on the sofa and take a nap, then wake up refreshed and do a bit of work.

The article then goes on to ponder the question: "If you wear an unironed shirt and no one sees it, was the shirt actually ironed?"

I've wondered the exact same thing before right here on this blog of course, only my thought went along the lines of "If a freelancer boils a kettle in the woods and no-one is around to hear it....."

The article proceeds to talk about freelancers who wear pyjamas all day get funny looks from the postman.

Come again? Firstly, the vast majority of my post is delivered through that convenient slot in my front door, I don't even see the postman most of time, and when I do see him? I really don't care what he thinks about me being in pyjamas at lunchtime, after all, he is the one wearing a pair of shorts like a schoolboy.

I have to admit that I wasn't very impressed by this "guru" and the article I was reading and so you can guess what happened next.

If the article had been in paper form then I would have thrown in directly into my bin, but as it was on my laptop I simply clicked away from the page.

With that I walked to the sofa in my pyjamas and then went back to the Jeremy Kyle show. The life of a work from home freelance professional.
